Welcome To The Learn Pop & Jazz Piano Newsletter

Encouraged and motivated, the ‘Online Learn Pop and Jazz Piano Study  Newsletter’ is the result of my very persuasive students insisting I should have a piano teaching website containing my methods and  ‘tips and tricks’ of the trade.

I offer this piano learning resource for your study and enjoyment. I’m Cliff Michaels and teach pop & jazz piano to beginner/intermediate students in South Florida. Although this is not a ‘beginners’ piano site, I will be making many recommendations for those who are—where to go, and how to get started.

Intermediate piano students of all ages will find a huge variety of subjects on all aspects of ‘pop and jazz’ piano playing that will take their playing to a new level.

A Wide Range Of Subjects Will Be Offered . . .

• piano chord study and theory

• pop and jazz piano playing

• jazz & traditional scales

• pop and jazz harmony and theory

• improvisation

• blues piano

• piano technique

and so much more . . .

Be sure to visit the Learn Pop & Jazz Piano Blog — it's a great place for questions, support, comments and requests. I welcome piano students and music teachers as guest authors to share their knowledge and experiences. Contact me to request an article or yours to be placed on this site along with your site link and/or your business. I hope to bring to this site many fine piano and music teachers to share their knowledge with you— they will be very much a part of this website.

One prerequisite to using this site successfully is that you must have basic knowledge of the piano and some music reading ability. ‘Beginner’ on this site means, beginner of more advanced concepts—not a beginner to the piano. Your explorations start with the categories tab above.

Enjoy, learn, and most of all… make it fun!

“Many of my methods are not traditional….

They are the ‘tricks of the trade’ methods”

Totally out of my control is me being over here and you being over there. With so much information on this website, it will be difficult to keep from ‘jumping around’, trying some of this or that. That can sometimes cause problems in your development. Skill development is progressive and must be taken in steps.

Jumping into the advanced material before you’re ready can cause confusion and frustration hindering your growth. If you find yourself not understanding certain materials, it’s because you have jumped into areas you’re not ready for. The feeling that you’ll never be able to get this stuff down becomes your mindset. And that’s where I loose you… and that is MY frustration.

How can I keep you focused—on track? The answer is simple, I don’t…. I can’t. This is an open site with total access to all areas. I can only offer this advice…. Do your best to stay at your level, to understand and complete one thing before moving on to the next. Go slow…. Going slow will have you playing better and faster… You will understand better when you learn about the benefits of slow practice.

An important piece of advice, and a concern of mine.

Good Luck!

I hope that the ‘Learn Pop & Jazz Piano Newsletter’ will become one of your favorite piano learning websites. Learn, practice, and most of all…. enjoy the music because…. “It’s what your feelings sound like”
